The Texas Authors Group is a collective of small publishers, authors and
illustrators, mostly from Texas, who work together to market and sell their
books and promote their school visits together. They market themselves as a
group to libraries across Texas and anywhere their are books sold.
TAG has a large following at the Texas Library Association annual
conference (large booth each year) because they give away school visits
from their authors. It is done mostly for awareness, but a lot of books get
sold, specifically if your book appeals to the Texas market. And, in order
to participate with the group or be on the website, you must donate a free
school visit each year at TLA.
There is a review process to be included in the TAG membership. The website
cost is $150 per year, running September to September. You have 1 time a
year (around January) when you are allowed to add or change copy.
Also, as a member you have access to the various trade shows, schools,
libraries, etc where we decide to exhibit so we can share booth space. The
booth/vendor fees are split between the individuals participating.
We have done this together for several years now, and have a really good
system worked out that works for everyone. For more information about
joining the group and/or being on the website, please email Rita Mills.
