Ellen Leventhal
Author

Ellen Leventhal is a Houston area author/educator. She grew up in the Northeast, but she and her husband, Stephen, have called Texas home for over 23 years. Ellen has two grown sons, Daniel and Seth. With a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in special education, she has worked with children for over 30 years.

Although Ellen has been writing for as long as she can remember, Don't Eat the Bluebonnets, collaboration with Ellen Rothberg, is her first published book. The writing team’s second book, Hayfest…It’s Not for Everyone is now out. The team continues to write, and have a young adult novel in the works.

Ellen Leventhal enjoys school visits where she can share her love of literacy through fun, interactive, presentations.


 

Presentation Descriptions

Although all presentations are educational, they are also fun and interactive. I personalize the presentation for each school. Although these are basic descriptions, I mix and match to develop the best presentation for the particular children with whom I’ll be working. Our illustrator, Bill Megenhardt, is often available to present along with me.

PRESENTATION 1
Cause and Effect

This presentation involves the children while helping them understand the reading strategy of “cause and effect.” I use a humorous power point explaining the steps to publication as well as a power point “Game Show” called “Guess the Effect!

PRESENTATION 2
Writing Process

This presentation includes a power point presentation focusing on the writing process. I also include the six traits of writing, and get the children involved in interactive games.

PRESENTATION 3
From Idea to Publication

This presentation focuses on the road to publication allowing the children to take part in “hands on” activities which will culminate with the children making their own book. This is best done with a small number of children.
